At Footsteps Care, we are committed to providing high-quality care and support to children and young adults, helping them to reach their full potential and achieve positive outcomes in all aspects of their lives. We are looking for caring individuals who are kind, enthusiastic, empowering, and motivated to make a real difference. Successful candidates must be able to work independently, use their own initiative, and work effectively as part of a professional and supportive team.

As a Support Worker, you will take on the important role of a “corporate parent,” providing guidance, care, stability, and encouragement to children and young people within our services. The role involves supporting not only their physical well-being, but also their emotional, social, and educational development.

You will be responsible for building positive and trusting relationships with children and young people, offering emotional support, promoting independence, and helping them to navigate daily challenges and complex emotions. Creating a safe, stable, nurturing, and supportive environment will be central to your role.

You will act as a positive role model by demonstrating values such as respect, kindness, patience, honesty, and responsibility. You will support children and young people to develop confidence, build healthy relationships, manage behaviours appropriately, and achieve personal goals.

Working alongside other professionals, families, and external agencies, you will advocate for the children and young people in your care and ensure that their emotional, physical, educational, and social needs are consistently met.

Compassion, empathy, and resilience are essential qualities for this role. We are looking for individuals who are patient, understanding, non-judgemental, and committed to providing unconditional support to children and young people who may have experienced trauma, adversity, or challenging life experiences.

At Footsteps Care, we strongly believe in equality, diversity, and inclusion. We are committed to ensuring that every individual has equal opportunities and receives the support they need to thrive and succeed.

All employees are expected to understand, follow, and actively promote Footsteps Care’s policies, procedures, and safeguarding responsibilities within their daily work.

The role will involve supporting children and young adults with mild to severe learning disabilities and/or mental health needs. Duties may include supporting with daily living tasks, accessing the community, attending appointments, supporting with medication, promoting independence, and encouraging participation in education and activities. Some children and young people may also require support with personal care.

Additional responsibilities include maintaining accurate records, completing detailed reports and observations, contributing to care planning, and ensuring safeguarding practices are followed at all times.

You may also be required to assist with household duties such as meal planning, cooking, cleaning, shopping, and maintaining a safe and comfortable home environment.

To be eligible for this role, applicants must be aged 21 years or over. Flexibility is essential, as shifts may include evenings, weekends, sleep-ins, bank holidays, and work across a seven-day rota. Attendance at all mandatory training sessions and staff meetings is required.

Please note that Footsteps Care Group only offers full-time positions, based on 40 hours per week.

Applicants must have a good standard of English, strong communication skills, and the ability to develop positive professional relationships with children and young people. The ability to write clear, accurate, and detailed reports is essential.

Ideally, candidates will have at least two years’ experience working within a caring environment supporting children or young adults. Candidates should also hold an NVQ Level 3 or 4 in Children’s Health and Social Care, or be eligible and willing to enrol onto the government-funded apprenticeship programme upon commencement of employment.

Knowledge of the Children’s Act, safeguarding procedures, and experience or understanding of challenging behaviour would be advantageous.
